Notes - Items with this notation are from the personal collection of Tool Memorabilia and are not property of CU.ORG: There is a story that is not mine to tell about these unique DAT tapes as these were procured by the legendary collector known as Tool Memorabilia from his vast entanglements within the Tool community. The DAT tapes were transferred by Galen in 2012 and given back to the owner. If these exist, more than these DAT tapes exist in the wild… That said, I’m not implying one can procure what Tool Memorabilia has been able to do over a long collecting career but if you never try, you will never know. Happy hunting.
Notes 2024:
In addition to all of the other versions of this particular performance, this is sourced from a DAT from Sylvia Massy. Just going to remind anyone reading this, before 2020, all known versions of this recording began with Undertow leaving Intolerance completely off the radar (even though this is what they opened up with as per usual). Again, this is probably the MOST widespread live recording of early Tool based on the Westwood One Broadcast. OGT notation, Intolerance was tacked-on at the back of the DAT tape although was never released on CD either commercially or bootlegged. Have scans of an alternate version of this, which is actually just a DAT-C of the source of this, and it does not designate Zoo Entertainment as this does (i.e.: Sylvia Massy tapes). Also, there is no need for a MP3 sample for this source.
Known variants: ”Tales From The Darkside” / “Sleep Forever” / “Opium Den” / “Westwood One Radio” (broadcast) / Sylvia Massy DAT… Other bootlegged incarnations.
Other than the Westwood One recording, TFTD is probably the most wide-spread Tool recordings., referring to actual illicit bootleg-for-profit CDs. "Sleep Forever" and Opium Den have some filler from other recordings.
