2001.09.24 - Wilkes-Barre, PA, USA @ First Union Arena
Source A: DAT --- Core Sound Binaurals > Sony TCD-D8 (Oade Bros Mod II) @ 48 KHZ
Position: Floor
Transfer: DAT-M > Tascam DA-20 > coax > Audiophile 24/96 > Sound Forge > WAV (transfer by cu.org/GSP)
Taper: Jeff Sebastianelli
Gen: Master Recording or "0" Generation (in WAV)
Notes: Clear recording with an accurate capture of a performance that, lackluster one could complain in regards to set list variation, is indicative of the bands ability to both create a clear, concise & definitive performance but simultaneously engage in a dissonance from it's fan base ala King Crimson or the 'used to be' Cat Stevens. In my opinion this is simply a fantastic recording that clearly pushed the limits of the tapers' equipment to the limit. I don't think I pulled a recording like this with the 'same' equipment. As it is, there are only so many recordings of the same set you can listen too - right? I would argue, though, that this is one of the shows you would probably want to check out. Unfortunately, I am so jaded by this band these days (2009, this is a 'new' recording) thus not entirely interested in hearing Schism. Again. And Again. And. Again.... Now one may wonder why this shows is so darn long; easy, the taper recorded a good deal of intro music & also recorded post-show while using a DDS 90m tape. Trust me.

Lateralus
Source B: Sony DCR-TRV340 Digital8 Video w/ Realistic 33-1165
Source/CD: 2nd Gen VHS --> Goldwave --> .WAV --> NERO --> CD ((Transferred to CD by Galen))
Notes: Not really sure what the hell is up with this show. I've received two different copies & both have the same issue: the audio is slightly off & is slightly slow in comparison with the video which is not slow. For that reason, this may be best left for collector's. The slowness does let-up during the Grudge but is so annoying (to me) that it simply aggravates to the core. The slowness does come back as well, sporadically. The performance is just like the majority of other 2001 shows - calculated, collected & professionally. Not much more to say except the visually is slightly below average in that the camera shakes & is terrible on close-ups. This particular source has not been found on DVD other than from random VHS>DVD transfers. It is not known if the filmer has ever put this from master>DVD. Time will tell, would be nice to see a quality version of this source make it's way out into the light of day - or dark of night, depending on how you looked at it.
Notes: There are no known Master>DVD's of this source in circulation.

Source C: Hi8 --- Sony CCD-TRV940 Hi8 w/Sound Professional mics
Source/CD: 2nd Gen VHS --> Goldwave --> .WAV --> NERO --> CD ((Transferred to CD by Galen))
Taper: Rawson
DVD Gen: 2nd from Master > VHS > DVD
Notes: This filmer's work on this particular show is so, so much better than the other versions floating around in people's collections. Not only did Rawson (filmer) have a very steady hand this night but he managed to get some great close-ups on MJK w/the screen behind him --- seeing the shadow & silhouette is rather interesting. Having watched many videos from this period, I can honestly say that lots of people try to do this but it rarely works to this degree. Very nice. Like all VHS>DVD transfers, you can tell that this was on VHS but at least it was from a lower gen. Sound is good, really good for a video and is a pleasure to watch. There are non-VHS transfers out there from the taper as well. Lateralus is slightly cut on all copies at the end.
