Notes:
Very interesting recording. Sound is crisp, clear & well balanced. Good performance by Tool as well - they seem to really have enjoyed this leg of the tour. This recording may, according to some people, be slightly incomplete. The taper had been living on sleep deprivation, fast food & beer. Mixed together with the experience of a Tool show & a very warm & Smokey atmosphere, he passes out - twice. Never heard anything like this before. During Parabol/a, the sound quickly changes from clear to muffled & you can hear a slight thud as a girl goes 'get him some air'. The taper's friend talks to him, he comes to consciousness. A minute later, Travis passes out again. Security comes & they give him water & whatnot. Somewhere, he presses 'stop' on the DAT. Apparently, security saw his mics & decided to do nothing about it - very cool. Once he is ok, the taper & his friend sit down in the stands. He then presses 'record' about 4 mins into 3rd Eye. He then says, 'I just fucking passed out & now I'm trying to tape Tool again --- whoooh!'. Priceless. I will not rip this source to CD, that would confuse things for the rip already out in the trade circles.

Notes:
This is an acquired master. I did not tape this show, I was not even at this show. Thomas sent me the master cassette, I mastered it, sent him back a CD copy & another gig. In return, he gave me the master. Big thanks to Thomas for hooking me up with this. Really, a decent recording for using such outdated equipment (by today's standards (note: this was me writing this in 2002 and its 2024)) and a built in microphone, to boot. Well, not decent really. Sound is surprisingly crisp (all things considered) but the bass does brickwall a bit...or, it sort of flutters. Even after all the reduction. Blahh. Best left for serious collectors only. This recording source will not win any awards for sound but I did what I could & tried as many processing options out there at the time.. The taper, at times, had this underneath a seat which only made it a little bit more difficult. One could argue best for hardcore collectors.

Specific EQ info:
Sony Cassette: Dolby C
Sony Receiver: -18 db of bass; +6 treble
GoldWave: -30 db of bass; +56% increase in treble

Notes:
Real nice mini disc recording, all things considering. Tool performed real well this night. Not sure where the taper was standing but I think he was front of board. The crowd is low & the music seems to hit the microphones just right. There is no brickwall, high nor low distortion but is instead is a nice product. For some reason, this is the only -complete- source which has made it's way into the trading pool as the other versions are slightly incomplete in places. This source has the clearest & most intense recording of Third Eye of the sources out. Although there are a few instances of the taper & friend(s) semi-talking it is no more so than what is common in most bootlegs. The only issue I have is when people say Dr. Leary's speech before or as it comes out of the speakers. But, all in all, this is a very good recording. Nice job to the taper... very nice capture of Tool. If more recordings sounded pretty much like this one, the world would be a better place. Well, maybe not but the world would sound better.
