If this were 1999 or even a gig in 2001 or 2002, perhaps I would (at least) have a different feeling about this recording. To my pessimistic paradigm, there is no real excuse for using a recorder that compresses the audio when there are good & not completely expensive solid-state recorders that do so with little problem. This is primarily a high-frequency recording, meaning, there is more high end than anything else. The bass is minimal. However, with so many recordings riddled with bass this is almost a welcome change. Almost. The high end almost, but not quite, hurts my ears. I am not trying to give the taper a hard time or anything like that (any recording is better than no recording!) & this is a decent capture considering the source information. And for that, kudos.

My taping location was on the GA floor, next to the right barricade, in front of the right stacks. It was tight quarters with people scrunched all around us. So whenever someone in front of us tried to push and shove their way back (toward the back of the arena to get more air) I had to turn to my right (chest against barricade) to let them through & protect my gear. So whenever you hear the sound muffling for a few seconds, this is what's happening. One of clearest memories of the show was this meathead redneck (in the first row of seats about 25 ft. to my right) with his shirt off, leaning over the railing and screaming his fucking head off. As the show went on he seemed to get worked up more and more into a frenzy, so by Vicarious and Aenema he was screaming and jumping up and down like a monkey. Listen for him in the right channel during the the intro to Vicarious and Aenema and picture an ape.   * DO NOT SELL THIS RECORDING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.** When trading this out, please trade ONLY in original Flac format to preserve the generational integrity.*** Do not edit, remaster, torrent or upload to a hub without permission from the taper. **** The wav files in this recording are 24bit/48kHz quality. A DVD-A disc can be created with them. If you want want to burn the wav files to an audio cd, you must first dither and resample them down to 16bit/44.1kHz to make the wav files CD-Audio compatible. Audicity is a freeware program that can perform the dithering & resampling. Notes:- My taping location was on the GA floor, next to the right barricade, in front of the right stacks. This is a recording that is clean, clear, strikingly in-your-face while retaining that "live" feeling but also leaves you with a sense of intimacy (as intimate as 10K people next to you at a Tool show that is). In other words, recordings like this tend to make the risk of collecting + taping this fine band worth it. There appears to be a good deal of EQ done to this recording but it is presumed that even in it's raw form I, at least, would form the same opinion. If I may digress, I've known this taper for a number of years (he was a collector, a die-hard one at that, prior to picking up a rig). Let this stand as evidence to those collectors who believe that taping is nothing they think they can pull off. This recording is really, really nice. This taper took a chance. Now, I bet, it would be impossible for him to see Tool without taping. Nice job you potsy-monkey.

Very good show had a little problem at first with my gear but i think it turned out great considering where i was sitting. Also, there is some chatter all through the concert really nothing i can do about that. Also on disc 2 my bass roll-off got swiched and the results is bassy throughout disc 2. Enjoy!

I do not know what really went on with this source but I, personally, hear distortion throughout the recording. All stemming from the bass. The first half of the show is not too bad but if you listen to the audio with any decent headphones you may hear what I do - bass distortion. It is not nearly as bad as disc 2 where it is basically pervasive throughout. Also, from the location of the taper (i.e.: somewhere far away from the speakers) the lack of focus of the audio is apparent. Crowd noise is loud. Unfortunately, this recording is best left for collectors only.
