Notes - Items with this notation are from the personal collection of Tool Memorabilia and are not property of CU.ORG: There is a story that is not mine to tell about these unique DAT tapes as these were procured by the legendary collector known as Tool Memorabilia from his vast entanglements within the Tool community. The DAT tapes were transferred by Galen in 2012 and given back to the owner. If these tapes exist then you best believe more than these DAT tapes exist in the wild… That said, I’m not implying one can procure what Tool Memorabilia has been able to do over a long collecting career but if you never try, you will never know. Happy hunting.
Notes: This is among my personal favorites out of every Tool related recording or release. This DAT tape and it’s sister DAT “Instrumental Mixes #2” are by far and beyond some of the coolest and rare items around. Each song on this particular DAT tape are the Production Masters which is what MJK sang over in the studio whilst recording their epic 1996 release. Yes, the tracks are out of sequence from the album but they are the actual production tracks. Interesting to hear how wide the sonic space is which MJK has to figure out how to fill. This band has consisted of musicians of the highest caliber since their earliest incarnation and make no mistake the team of Jones, Chancellor and Carey make it possible so the singer, Keenan, is able to finish the details of the painting the other three members so painstakingly create. The story behind this and other DAT recordings is just, it’s almost unbelievable but it is all true.
