Source A: Mini Disc --- Sound Professionals Premium Slimline Cardioids > Sharp MD-MS702
Notes: Very, very nice capture of Tool during an odd & confusing time of existence. The performance itself is, IMO, flawless as the bad seems to be -literally- exerting emotion & energy without really doing anything other than playing the music. For that, it seems, this recording is one that everyone should have in their collection & actually listen to rather than just list for kicks. The thing is, the performance is better than this actual recording/capture of Tool live - it is slightly muffled and not all that bright, if you will. Go ahead, dig it our & listen to it. A few wind issues/movement with hitting the microphones do not hinder the enjoyment one may find when listening to this recording. One of the better performances of 2001. For those anal collector's, there is a slight half second drop-out during Pushit.

Taper: Eye of A Stranger
Notes: Now, this is a killer mini disc recording. If more MD recordings sounded like this there would be a lot less DAT tapers... well, maybe not. But you may hear what I mean when you listen to this recording with headphones. The taper managed to get a very tasty recording using mics that I for one would not think would deliver as nicely as this recording does. The bass hits just about right and the highs are extra-crisp. This recording sounds almost front-of-stack to my ears, maybe I am wrong. Wherever the taper was, the stacks weren't far away. Excellent performance and definitely a well-above-average MD capture of Tool during a very odd time of touring. For those purists and anal (leakage) collectors, there is a phasing of the microphones during Stinkfist. This recording has been converted to SHN as well.

Notes: Although the layer of fuzz from a generation or two before this got put onto DVD is rather annoying (as it snowing at this performance?) I think that it is easy to tell that the combination of the 2 video recorders equals out to a rather interesting creation. I should note that I personally do not like "editing" effects on videos, it seems very cheesy, especially some of the things people come up with. This is no exception. That said, there are lots of other videos that are much worse. Performance is as polished & tight as one would expect from this leg. Nothing more to really say about this.
