2002.05.01 - Adelaide, Australia @ The Entertainment Center

Source A: Mini Disc --- Sony ECM-S900 > Sharp SR-50W
Taper:
Clint B.

Notes:
Has a decent brickwall as the levels were set too high. Or else, it sounds like the taper ran mic-in instead of line-in. Most likely, the Sony ECM mics just took a shit as they sometimes do in a bad position where they cannot handle the power. When the bass hits - it hits hard & sort of 'grumbles'.  Not really distortion, just a brickwall. The first few seconds of 'grudge' are missing & the audio jumps for about 4 seconds into the song. Good capture of Jimmy though. All in all, everything considered, not bad....considering that this is the only recording to surface until 2003. Some may feel that this recording would be best reserved for collectors. Interesting performance, Maynard mentions drugs for a few nights. This is one of those nights...I wonder why?

Maynardism:
"Good evening. For those of you who have over-indulged in hallucinogens, we find it necessary to remind you that you are at a Tool show - just in case you forgot. Everything's going to be just fine."

DAT --- Sound Professionals Cardioids > Oade Bros Mod > Sony TCD-D100

Notes:
Taped from, pretty much, center-soundboard, this recording captures one hell of a good performance of Tool. By contrast to their Australian tour in 2001, the setlist is quite similar although the energy of the performance seems more inspired & MJK is more talkative as well. The vocals are exceptionally crisp, especially for an Australian recording, the guitar is sharp, the bass is finely tuned although, on a system, may be slightly mature, and the drums + cymbal clashes are superb. Any way you break it down, this is one good listen that will not leave one disappointed in any way, shape or form. Apparently, the taper released this in middle 2003 & this will, most likely, be a very popular and recommended recording. This is, IMO, the finest of the Australian & New Zealand recordings from this era. Also, this recording features the absolute -best- version + intro to Jimmy this fan has ever heard. Definitely one for the collector, enthusiast & for anyone desiring to hear a brilliant recording. According to the taper, the CD version was heavily equalized from the raw DAT. However, that itself sounds quite nice.
