2001.10.10- Tampa, FL, USA @ The USF Sundome
Source A: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals > Sharp MT-90
Taper: Dunebug/Greg
Gen: 1st from Master
Notes: I don't think the taper was super close to the speaker, sounds more like he was in a seat somewhere. There are a lot of close, proximity claps (if that makes any sense to you). The sound isn't really in your face but is instead a rather naturally sounding live recording. Everything seems to be balanced rather nicely. The bass is pretty much good in a positive way but may be a little boomey. Tool is, well, rather professional & polished with the setlist & the performance. There isn't really anything terribly interesting about this though. Really, if you look at the setlist, the order of songs are switched around a little bit but wouldn't you rather hear an obscure B-Side or something? But I am perhaps a little biased, there are more -on- Tool performances that people have taped. One thing, Maynard sort of loses where he is <singing> during Schism. It's kind of funny.

Source B: DAT --- Core Sound Binaurals > Attenuator Cable -20db > Sony TCD-D8
Taper: Runme69
Notes: For the source (CSB>DAT), one would expect a little better recording. It doesn't help that the taper must've been very far away from the stacks & in the stands. The sound is a bit distant, the crowd is rather noticeable and the volume is too low... that is probably why the taper should've not used the attenuator cable. The vocals are clear enough as is everything else but the bass makes it a little muddy. Too much bass or something. But, in a big venue, if you are far away, the bass will sort of boom and be like mud. That is what happens here. All in all, not too bad but not too great either. And, for some reason, the person who mastered this show split disposition & reflection - I wonder why.
Maynardism: "Thank you very much Dale. That was Dale from the Melvins. If you've ever wondered who the guy is in the purple dinosaur costume, that is Barney, it's Dale. Dale is Barney. Little known fact."
