Notes - Items with this notation are from the personal collection of Tool Memorabilia and are not property of CU.ORG: There is a story that is not mine to tell about these unique DAT tapes as these were procured by the legendary collector known as Tool Memorabilia from his vast entanglements within the Tool community. The DAT tapes were transferred by Galen in 2012 and given back to the owner. If these tapes exist then you best believe more than these DAT tapes exist in the wild… That said, I’m not implying one can procure what Tool Memorabilia has been able to do over a long collecting career but if you never try, you will never know. Happy hunting.
Notes: To be honest, this particular DAT tape is fucking awesome. Instrumental No Quarter? I know, MDAT41 has Third Eye instrumental but this, reason I am so into this tape, I think that this clearly defines that the band did, indeed, record No Quarter several times in the studio (just like Maynard’s Dick). Perhaps we can put a final pin in that conspiracy theory that the band only did it once? You can take a listen to a ~5 minute sample above. Unsure what the ‘recall’ on the tape’s cover refer to as each version is exactly the same. The remix #1 and #2 are strange as there seems to be zero difference in tonality or time. Absolutely interesting insight into the rhythm and not the vocal portion of Tool. To be clear, my belief, is that these are as close to or are the Production versions prior to the vocals so there is not extra-noodling around, banter or alternate versions (for the most part).
