Notes: Excellent sound for audio sourced from a VHS but is slightly muffled. VHS copies of this recording are actually very clear & is in focus quite a bit; I have not seen all of course. Transfer to CD is very clean as well. As for the recording, there is a layer of digi-pops, very subtle static and a semi-annoying problem of losing the audio in the right channel for 2/5 of a second during Schism and a couple songs on disc #2. Also, the grudge cuts out right before the main scream, about 8:50 into the song; a taping problem most likely. Not terrible by any means but worth noting. Seeing as how only a video has made its way out, it is doubtful a recording -only- source will be released anytime soon. This is the exact same setlist as the 09.16.01 show I was at, if it matters... Beware, there are numerous different VHS>DVD rips out there. A common DVD version that seems to be floating around is the same as the VHS version only the DVD is from a 2 or 3G VHS. And, this is definitely a VHS rip. There are reports of a master>DVD rip out there somewhere but I have not seen it. Nothing new to say about the DVD, same overall quality as the VHS except this DVD transfer does not have audio in the right channel. Has audio in the left, but not the right. Sounds to me like this was a bad transfer job. So, moral of the story, know what you are getting from a collector before you get it! This DVD-menu has a neat little Lateralus (cover picture) on it... that may be a clue as to which version this is that floats around.
