The taper stood directly in front of the left stacks and it shows. This is one of the clearest recordings of 2002. Some people claim it is the best sounding recording from the Fall tour. I don't know about that, per se, but this is definitely a superb recording. The bass drum seems to have a life of it's own as Adam's guitar simply riffs almost effortlessly. The vocals are crystal clear & I don't think Justin's bass has really sounded any more solid. To top it off, this is simply a real good performance by Tool....although, it can be agreed upon, most are good performances. But the quality of this particular recording seems to sort of elevate it. All in all, this is one recording which has already been let loose all over the Tool Hub & was first released in SHN format. This has the clearest version of Third Eye I think I've ever heard...great stuff.

Maynardism:
"Good evening. Y'all plan on having fun tonight, right? We probably should make some kind of distinction. What kind of fun we're gonna have tonight. Not like WWF or monster truck kind of fun. And not like Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock kind of fun. The difference being we don't underestimate your intelligence. We're going to have informed, intelligent, inspired, think for yourself - question authority kind of fun, yes? Having said that..."

Notes:
I did not record this show. Having used the same microphones, I recommend this recording for only hardcore collectors. I do have the master as I transferred it to CD from the master MD. This recording is not badly distorted but is almost completely brickwalled by distortion. Many times, it is hard to even figure out what song is what. The exception is when the wavelengths of sound are more neutral such as in Reflection as you can tell what is going on. The taper was on the floor, a little north of the sound-board to the left but not in front of the stack Obviously, this is specifically for a hard-core collector who is a completionist. Really, there is not much more to add. It is almost painful to listen to at times...the sonic -blghh-blghh- of the bass will drive you mad. Insane. I think the funniest thing on this show is when the taper's friend says, during intermission: "I just want to see that bulge. Big bulge." Hmm....I wonder what he could be talking about? I laughed out loud when I first heard that.

Notes:
This is a very nice recording when you consider the fact that this source was recorded with headphones, not microphones. There is a bit of crowd noise, the limitation of the headphones are audible but, damn, it is a good listen. If nothing else, this is at least or above average for expectations of recordings from this leg of the tour go. I don't think that there is anything to say about this particular performance that I haven't mentioned before. The recording itself was taped by the soundboard & has a rather nice balance to it as far as the levels go. All in all, nice. There is no FDO.

Notes:
The filmer was left-center <back> while filming this show. There are some superb full stage + screen shots which make this a rather interesting & holistic experience to watch. There are a few close-ups but, really, they are generally relatively dark & a little obscure. Good, nonetheless. However, there seems to be a bit more camera ducks than are common in other products that Randy has manufactured. But sometimes that is what you need to do to get a complete recording. I don't really know how those filmers do it, to be honest, but I am glad someone wants to. Personally, I am more than happy doing FOS recording. Back on topic, Tool was very good this night & this is the show which, as reported by the official website a few months back, "Faaip De Oaid" was played & recorded after the show & is supposed to be included on a future DVD release. This has yet to be actually verified.
