Notes by Nameloc: <thump thump...thump thump....thump thump>   The first thing that I noticed while listening to this recording is how "up front" in the mix MJK is...well,...that and the "oopsie" during HWAP. Anyhew, there seems to be some decent amount of crowd noise during the "quieter" parts of this recording and/or intervals between songs, but I suppose this is to be expected. This recording seems to have a pretty "heavy" bottom/mid range and to my ears at least it sounds -slightly- consolidated with some of the higher frequencies. Its hard to get an "image" on where the tapers' position may have been.....some distance away from the speakers perhaps...?? I dunno. Dont get me wrong, this is not a bad recording at all, its fairly consistant in its execution and the performance itself, while not "the best" of the tour, is very enjoyable. Note " The Pot" was in the setlist this night. Good job to the tapir'. This show had the best posters of the tour. :P

Notes by Taper: Thanks to tooligan for his time and work on the recording. Please do not convert this recording to lossy formats, or remaster this release.

Notes: Unless I am hearing something you are not, this is a distant-sounding audience recording with a plethora of layered crowd noise intertwining with the swishy sound of the cymbals only to hide the obscured vocals, whew. It does not get better from there. Mix in some light quasi-phasing and a strange ‘almost distorted’ but still ‘distant’ sound this recording would require a lot of will-power to make it through. That said, this is the only source known to be readily available which, in turn, makes it the best source for this performance. I would tend to think of this as a step above for collectors only.

Notes: This is a solid recording. MJK’s vocals decent in the mix, the guitar and bass hit nicely and DC’s drums are caught with some amount of depth and clarity. Crowd noise is at a minimum throughout whereas many nuances that Tool, as a band, will create while performing live, are caught such as a guitar scrape or a bass drone or a snare hit. Pleasant recording and one of the only known to exist.

Notes by Nameloc: This recording is very clear, not distant sounding at all, consistant in its execution and as the tapers states "complete". Unfortunately, it is also extremely thin sounding and has no "ass", so to speak. I've never owned or ran CSC's before...but I'd venture to guess that they are solely responsible for bringing this source down from where it could have been. ( I've had results very much like this when I used to run similiar SP/AT cards)  This recording is still worth a good listen..and perhaps the taper will make some "adjustments" in his approach in the future as he seemed to have a good handle on some of the other very important factors of non-sanctioned live vibrational wave documentation. Good job.

Notes: Good recording, it honestly sounds a lot like the previous nights efforts by the same taper. Clear, concise and steady this recording is like a Toyota; reliable but not going to blind you with flashiness. If anything this recording is somewhat thin as the bass seems to roll-off slightly. This does not take away the enjoyment of this recording as it is absolutely a solid listen.

Nakamichi CM-300

Notes 2024: Realized that this source has never seen the light of day thus we spent sometime to do a fresh transfer and EQ of the raw audio. This was the only known recording of a Tool show with Nakamichi CM-300 microphones (that I am aware of) which is kind of cool. The microphones used were unmodified meaning they are the full-length shotgun style microphones thus getting just the NAKS inside the venue was a harrowing task but with a little black magic, anything is possible. The Nakamichi CM-300's used were given to me by own father who used them to record not only the jazz bands he was in circa late 1970's but also other bands he recorded on reel-to-reel thus this source is sentimental to me. I literally worked on this particular performance/source in the year 2024 on the 24th of January; exactly 12 years post this performance and source just a few days after I got back from seeing Tool in Hollywood, FL with my good buddy RJB on the 18 and 19 of January. Time is crazy like that. Life is crazy like that. I will say, this setlist particular remains as one of my favorites I was lucky enough to experience. The recording has more nuanced textures than vibrancy. Some instances of movement, the crowd was nuts at this show but nothing too crazy. After this pull I thought to myself 'that was fun but once was enough' as it was quite the challenge to use those microphones both on a stealth level while also making sure they are able to access the sound. As it is, here it is.

Notes by Galen 2012:
Whew the crowd was loud and moved a lot! Tool was in good form throughout this performance. MJK relied heavily on effects for vocal harmonies including the megaphone. Danny was spot-on, Adam's guitar blistered through the speakers and Justin's bass slaps shook the fillings in my mouth. Great set of songs delivered with seasoned professionalism. I noted that MJK says 'slurps of cock' in HWAP were 'sips of Coke' originally was which is rather funny. Tickets for this performance sold out very quickly and were rather difficult to get when they went on sale. When I attend concerts the last thing I do is scream, laugh, dance about, move and sing along. No, I stand there with my arms either folded or hands behind my back simply watching and listening to the music. After all, that's what's important, right? The music and being there, present in the moment are elements of importance. Although, truth be told, the more you move the more interference/issues you will have with your recordings. That said, a woman in her early 20's who partied the entire show, at one point, screams in my ear the following: "Why are you even here? You're not dancing! You look bored!" Oh, dear girl, nope - nope - I was not bored. Rumor has it that there are actually two Intelligent Enigmatic Micrometers associated with this performance isn’t that wild?

2024 Notes:
Until 2025, this source had only been gathering dust and it was time to give it a proper retransfer and EQ prior to releasing it. As I geared up with the three M1's, wires and stuff I was bring into the show I saw my little Edirol R09 and thought to myself maybe I should bring that in with these CSB microphones just to make this even more difficult? I looked at it and said screw it I’m bringing them in. I did not focus on this source as it was a last minute idea so we set the record levels to 15 (half way), checked the batteries and put it in the back pocket of my jeans after hitting record. Thus the first 45 minutes of the recording involves getting the other sources ready in a stall, talking to a few other tapers and members of The Collective, shooting the shit as we had a beer before rushing to our seats as Tool went on stage about 10 minutes earlier than listed. Recording came out as good as one would expect for just hitting record on a solid state while using more than a decade old CSB microphones (note: they are still in use even in 2025) which is decent. I will say that the taper did not have the bass roll off option enabled on the CSB battery box thus there is some really deep rumblings at times. Some crowd shifting and gosh the bass was loud that evening but all in all, pretty standard CSB source. If anything, it has a darker sound rather than a lighter, more airy sound if that makes sense but a lot of that is literally the venue.

Notes by Nameloc:
I almost didn't make it to this show. About a week or so before we had one of those nice flash blizzards here in Cleveland, somehow my cars engine took in some water (slush) over the course of that day and the motor seized up... blown...toasted. So, with all of the problems that caused it seemed that getting to this show in Toledo (and back), which is almost 2.5 hrs from my house, wasn't my biggest priority. I actually then decided to just try to sell the ticket or worst case give it to someone who might tape the show. So I called a guy I knew that lived in the general area (Cleveland) and also taped shows to see if he wanted it,..I hadn't talked to him in quite some time, and as it turns out he was going to the show himself and offered me a ride, to and from. Good deal..as I really wanted to see this show due to the new additions to the setlist. So, with the ride from The Junkyard Express, some guidance from Mr.T...and some help from the aliens..I made the show. We parked quickly and I pretty much immediately went to scout the entrances and come up with a solid plan to get it easily. I ran into a buddy on the way, we hung out for a few, then both proceeded to enter the venue..with a good amount of ease. I went off looking for a poster..which we were late coming to the tables..finally got one..then made off for my seat to setup..test the gear..ect. I had never been to this venue before, but I knew my seat was on the right side of the arenas' "bowl"..about halfway up the lower section. This was far less than " an ideal location", and I wasn't expecting all that much from the recording. As it happened to be, while my seat was to the rightside, it wasn't all that far away from the stack (maybe 45-50' away). And besides that, the seat immediately to my right was empty the entire show, along with two of the seats in front of me. Basically, I had no one (anywhere) in front of me within 3', and strangely, not one single person walked down the (my) aisle in front of me fucking with the sound in relation to my mics. Everything seemed to worked out pretty well.. the recording came out fairly solid..like I noted, no disturbances and I had a clean, close "shot" to the stack. The recording is more of an ambient one I think..unlike a few of the really good "omni" sourced shows recently that have sounded more "soundboard-like". The mix was good this night, and the band put on a really good performance, "Pushit" is probably the highlight of the show. All in all, I'm happy with the way this source turned out, and its an enjoyable listen. I did send several copies of this show out to people.. so, if you have any interest in hearing it, it is out there.

Okay... I was in attendance at this show, and it is looking like it also happens to be one of my favorite performances from the tour. Generally speaking, this is not a horrible recording, however, it is not a great one either. There are some "phasing" issues here and there, periods of the music being "muffled" and the sound of some distance between the taper and the speakers...like I said though..not horrible and worth a listen. As always, a "good job" goes out to the taper, as any TOOL recording is not easily accomplished and "something" is always better than "nothing".

The known video to exist from this performance is rough like an one-eyed retired stripper nick-named the Troll not for looks but the hump in her back. Filmed from what appears to be upper right bowl with a jacket over the shaky video one wonders if the venue was actually a ship floating in a violent storm somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, but, no, just Ohio. Sound is muffled, consistently unsteady video and grainy. On the other hand, a friend of mine said it was “not so bad” so the cool thing is you can check it out for yourself but for CU.org, this is for collector’s only.

Notes by Nameloc: I am listening to this recording right now not having one bit of source info to go off of..and i will say that I am very eager to find out exactly what gear this taper used this night. I liked this recording *immediately*...the sound is very much "in your face", Adams' Silverburst sounds wonderful and JCs' bass is right there along with it. MJKs' vocals are quite clear and not buried in the mix...  This recording is very consistant overall and nicely balanced. I suppose I could probably go on for awhile about this particular source, but there really is no need. Its simply a great recording and well worth a proper listen. Good Job Mr.Taper... I tell you, the source information does not match the quality of this source.

Notes by Nameloc: Had the taper not torrented this recording away to the masses..I might be so inclined to advise him to "sit on it" for a bit...and then proceed to extract a myriad of "sexual-favors" from traders and collectors around the world... to put it simply, this is an excellent recording. It is (nearly) perfect in its execution and the overall sound quality is superb...not many sources have a bottom-end like this one. The drums sound wonderful, the guitars sound great, MJK is mixed clearly and the music is pretty much as "in your face" as it gets. Did I mention "Parabola"...? This is mandatory listening (easily a "top recording" from this tour).. A+ job for the taper.

Notes by Nameloc: Ah yes…the “single point stereo microphone”,..I love it (I’m a former member of that team). I will start out by saying that while this is by no means a “stellar recording”..it is not a bad one either and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are some audible “bumps” into the microphone in a few places and a slightly “boomy” low-end ( these issues go along with the “cuts” in “Jambi”)…but that is easily overlooked. By the recording at hand, the taper seems to have a good understanding of “protocol” and its to our benefit. I also like how the band was performing this night..not rushed, not being lazy and MJK didn’t seem (too) condescending to the audience, basically it was a good, solid, professionally executed performance. A good enjoyable listen is to be had with this one.

As it turns out, this really isnt a bad recording afterall..there are some slight flucuations in the sound, some "mudi-ness" and of course the aforementioned crowd banter. I will say that if you are looking for a live and "raw" sounding recording, this one will likely "fit the bill". I was fairly surprised in general (all things considered), and i will also throw a "good job" to the taper of this show, as I imagine not much more could have been done in regards to getting a better recording with the gear that was used.

Notes by Nameloc: Given the general decent quality of the recent influx of recordings done with handheld recorders and “built in mics”, I was expecting this recording to be better than it actually turned out to be.  In a nutshell, there is a consistant layer of crowd noise “ on top” of the music, and the sound of some distance between the recorder and the stacks. The majority of this recording sounds “muffled” or at least like it (recorder) was well below a “clean line of sight” in regards to the speakers… I also detect some “brickwalling”. If nothing else, this recording serves as a “document” of this particular show…and it is best left at that. Again, any recording is better than no recording, and with any luck “Fuzz’s Girlfriend” will keep her “monster taping balls” intact and pull some better results next tour.  She will.

I do not know which Yin or the Yang lays but it somewhat of a challenge to get yourself into this video. I will say the sound is decent as good if not better than the other albeit challenging other recordings known to be floating around in the sphere of Tool collector’s living in their parents basements strung out on meth, Jim Beam and FloNase. Not quite a collector’s only but it’s not close to being awesome.

After reading the tapers notes (essay) on this source, I was hoping that maybe there was some hope left afterall...it seems we can put the "zombie kits" away for awhile. Yet another wonderful recording, all the way around. No issues here at all..no "phasing", no "boomy bass", no audience/alien interference and very much close sounding and balanced..I very much like the sound of the guitars on this one. This is a fairly clear and consistent recording and quite live sounding. By the tapers notes on his source, I wasnt really sure what to expect..but I think he was accurate in his assessment.. it seems the only real issue here is the slightly noticeable (audible) that his position was away from the speakers (upper deck). This is by no means a  bad recording though ..in fact it was/is very enjoyable to listen to.. the band seems a little more aggressive than normal which is most noted during "HWAP"..we also get a very good version of "Pushit" this evening all the while providing a very good mix to "our" ears. All in all ...a nice recording.

Notes by Nameloc: Omnis in a large arena setting.... results.... (at least in this case)... a very enjoyable, a very solid audience recording that has that "classic" feel to it. The taper did a good iob with this one..very persistant in his approach. There is a brief moment of audience chatter here and there, but all its doing is basically reminding us that this is an "AUD" and not one of those strange (and elusive) "IFM" or "UIO" (?) recordings that the aliens are (supposedly) pulling from their spacecraft in high orbit via some sort of high frequency gamma impulse flux scanner. Anyhow, this source sounds full, rich and captures the energy/atmosphere of the show perfectly. It is definitely worth a good listen. Nice job.

Notes by Taper:
Recorded from Section 5, Row C, 20 ft. FOB. This was a solid show and I had a fairly good sound mix from where I taped this from. There are a few detractors though. First, there was a group of loud obnoxious morons behind me. They talked and yelled the entire show. Luckily, my mics don't pick up much sound from behind me, and the music mostly drowned them out, but you can still hear their occasional idiotic additions to the show. Secondly, there was a Meadowlands anti-camera security guard a few feet in front of me that took his job way too seriously and shouted at people to put their phones away. He makes a guest appearance on the tape a few times, most notably on my left during Jambi where he took out all of his pent up anger and frustrations on some fan that dared take a picture. Pathetic, and a bit amusing considering I was taping the whole show right in front of him. Enjoy.

Notes: Whew, boy I remember when this recording was torrented. Although certainly not the first radio frequency inspired recording to be released by Tool or any other band, this particular one was somewhat different. For one, the recording should not sound as decent as it does because, again, the RF is just a scanner which lacks depth. I don’t know if the taper spent some time working on it in post or just got mega lucky. This particular source was released and only a few months later, this was pressed onto bootleg vinyl and was sold on eBay as well as in other places across the EU. Think, Camden Towne in London, for example, the stalls area. Also, this was pressed onto CD with attempts of being sold on eBay at one point but I believe they put a stop to that relatively quick as CD versus vinyl bootlegs seem to involve different pressure points. As it is, this exists and I think for a lot of, especially casual listeners, this recording would blow their collective minds (even though, technically, this is the lowest chain on RF quality in one were examining the specificity of this niche taping method).

Notes by Nameloc: Well...I’m really not even sure where to begin with this one. Generally, I am not a big fan of the kind of results you (typically) get when running Omnis in a large arena rock n' roll setting..seems they tend to be a bit muddy and or "flat sounding", not to mention the typical audience chatter around you which may or may not sometimes include the sound of your "neighbors" talking about the "last time I saw them (insert band name here) play..." in a venue that you know for a fact they never played...anyhow.. After about 10 minutes of listening to this particular source, I had already forgotten that I was listening to a recording that was done secretly by an audience member...with recording equipment hidden (..only God knows where) When I finally snapped out of it, I thought about what I was hearing, it was clear that this taper had an agenda that evening..to make a monster recording...and he succeeded. This is an extremely consistent, nearly perfectly balanced, "phase-free","up-front" seriously kick-ass recording. It could easily pass for an "open taping" sourced recording (imagine that)..it’s that good. The sound the band is emitting this evening is also very good. the mix is solid, MJK is clear, the guitars and bass are locked in, and the man behind the drum set sounds like he’s playing just for you. This night’s performance is quite good. I especially enjoyed this version of  "Sober”. that particular song, at least for me on the LP version, carries a very specific "vibe”. a certain sound to that particular (lp) recording. that from what I have heard of TOOL recordings over the years, it sometimes doesn’t really carry over to the live versions. the version this night comes pretty damn close. The "jam" the band has been doing this tour (alleged portion of a new song) sounds especially powerful, mostly the drums. I could probably go on, but I think you'd understand better by just listening to this recording. I'll say fairly confidently, that this will go down as one of the top recordings from this tour. Great job to the tapir'

Notes by Nameloc: Hmmm…interesting recording.,  I’m not sure whether to approach it as a “ very good  (internal mics) recording” ..or just a “ good recording done without the use of external mics”.  I guess I will leave it like this, as I’m listening to this source it has a full bottom end (although slightly boomy at times) and a very clear high-end ( although a tad crystalline and thin at times) while not having strong, fluid transitions in the midrange. That being said, I still like this recording, it was obviously perpetrated within a close proximity to the stacks, as the crowd disturbance is minimal, the music is “in your face” along with the the taper was pretty steady throughout the show. Its really surprising what some of these handheld recorders can accomplish in the right conditions. Essentially, this is a very nice recording and definitely worth a listen. Good work.

Notes by Galen: I completely disagree with Nameloc. Lotssssssss of crowd + taper participation, I find the vocals decent at best and in isolation w/o people screaming over the lyrical content then maybe it would be really sweet but as it is, no thank you. It is what it is: an internal M10 recording. Too much crowd. My own opinion, Sony finally figured out their internal microphons with e Sony A10 and PMD series.

Notes:
All known sources for this performance that I have heard have been sourced from the Tool Drive Project. This particular source was apparently recorded by Geordy who by all measures is one heck of a solid taper. He also was a stickler for source information so when I hear this undefined audience recording with a lineage of all things Sony PCM-M1 w/no specific microphone information, it is curious. If there are any two people in a room where somehow the dorky conversation pertaining to source info for live Tool recordings I can reliably say Geordy and myself would raise our hands first. Be interesting to actually figure out the source info.

Wow. If the crowd noise doesn’t take you from even trying to enter the moment then the cheers/jeers/commesnt from the taper of this brickwalled, distorted, incomplete and forgettable. For BDSM collectors only - you know who you are. My “safe word” for this recording is: NO!

Notes:
All in all, quite the solid and above average video. Filmed from roughly center bowl to the stage-right, this recording has a lot of positive things about it including but not limited to that the audio is well above average for a video from this era. The filmer 110% had a lot of experience before this performance as the close-ups are controlled, clean and hold-steady throughout. For 2012, without a doubt, this is the best video of the tour. Lots of full stage shots with absolutely more than adequate captures not including such common and epileptic inducing massive in/out, blurry focusing, sudden security duck for no reason and the world famous ‘randomly tilt the camera at whatever angle for no reason whatsoever’…. This is devoid of that. Excellent job.
