Source A: DAT --- Soundman OKMIIR "Studio" > Sony TCD-D7
Location:
Front of Stack
Taper:
FBZ
Gen:
DAT-1 from Master

Notes - Galen:
I found it rather difficult to attempt to explain this source in regards to audio clarity. On one hand, the recording sounds rather bass-heavy with the instruments all at “one level” sort of like a standard Front of Stack recording. On the other hand this source captures a lot of the nuances that are lacking in many recordings. There is a weird noise sensation, it sounds like something rattling – take a good long, hard listen to Stinkfist about ¾ of the way through to hear what I’m talking about. It’s difficult to explain but I believe that the paradigm you are in when you listen to this source will determine your perception of the audio. Personally, I find this to be an absolute delight to listen to as I have at least 3x since I received the DAT-1 from the taper. The taper sent Ryan A. a copy of his recording to EQ/mix prior to release so watch out for that. At this point, I am unable to put MP3 samples up online from DAT’s so you will have to just take my word for it until the EQ version is released. All in all, a very nice recording of a particularly strong performance by Lee-A-Popa + The Flaming Watusis.
Notes - Galen:
It should be noted that there is a re-mastered version of this source available. It was EQ'd by Ryan A. (potsymonkey). A un-EQ'd file was given to Ryan A. by the taper. There are significant differences between the audio of the original & the re-mastered version. Taking a guess, I think most people will only hear the Ryan A. version as many of the subtleties/nuances of many of the songs were somewhat buried before. Nice job to both parties.

Source B: DAT --- Core Sound High End Binaurals / 4061 > Core Sound Battery Box > Sony TCD-D8

Notes:
Make no mistake, this is a decent audience recording if you like more 'ambient' recordings. It was clearly recorded from some distance form the speakers as the levels are rather low. Instead of an exceptionally clear recording this is in fact a bit muddied due to both the distance & limitations of the omni-based microphones. It's often difficult to really hear a clear separation between the instruments as everything seems, to lack a better term, just squashed together. As it is, this does have some strong elements such as a pleasant tone with a hefty layer of bass coating the recording. Pervasively. That said, a recording is always better than no recording & this definitely has replay value, however, I tend to listen to FBZ's source if I want to hear a performance of this show.
