Notes: This video was given to CU.ORG via filesharing service from an old friend who said one of her old friends filmed this performance from within a suite. That said, the footage is quite stable. There are not massive close-ups nor is there any bits of following a member or members around on stage. Basically, this is the equivalent of a tripod video from the sound booth area. It’s cool, for sure, but it’s not you know totally crazy interesting as it is literally a sit-shoot. Which is fine, it is what it is. It is continually very, very hard to find any complete Tool videos in the first place which does place this as an outlier.

Notes - not CU.ORG: This recording has problems. There are some short bits missing in "Fear Inoculum", "The Pot" and "Pneuma". Sounds like a skipping CD. Those are the errors I have noticed, might be a few more. But the rest of the show is listenable so I thought I would post it anyway.

Notes - CU.ORG: This recording sounds like it was recorded from at minimal 3/4 of the way around the arena farthest from the speakers/sound source. There are intermittent ‘skips’ (which someone else mentioned) but it’s not a ‘skip’ but is editing in post for some reason or another… If I were to guess loud thwacks against the microphone/distortion. I have an Aiwa CM-30 (genuine circa early 1990’s — looking at you, SD via France 1993 Tool recordings) and it is prone to loud jumps if it rubs against cloth or something. That’s what I think happened here. And, honestly, the Aiwa CM-TS55 (pic above) is not an audiophile’s microphone. It will get the job done but it is what it is; something picked up for under $50 USD new or used. I would put it among the Sony ECM series of microphones from the 1990’s to 2000’s. Overall, not great but not totally terrible and, hey, it exists and is the only source in circulation which makes it… the best recording around for this performance.

Notes - CU.ORG: Will this recording win a beauty prize? No. But it certainly is fantastic as it has the first recorded Ticks & Leeches performed in many a moon (although we do have some professional, technical timing issues, looking at you, AJ) so this is by default a recording to keep in mind of. The audio quality is, well, it is sourced from a Sony ECM-717 microphone which delivers at least somewhat of an accurate representation of the performance. The thing with ECM’s is they are more less just in the middle of the sound spectrum, at least to my ears. No sound really jumps out, one way or another. If the taper truly was far away from the stacks, this must have been a relatively small arena… Ok just looked it up: opened in 1909, has a maximum capacity for concerts at 13,500 and aesthetically, looks beautiful. In America, we have places called Wal-Mart Center or Nationwide Arena or Save-A-Lot Center…Germany has gorgeous venues on par with the golden age of architecture… And we have Smoothie King Arena in New Orleans, USA which is literally above ground so as not to flood when the sea level, you know, rises.

Notes: For the only recording known to circulate, this is pretty good all things considered. Low crowd noise other than the occasional ‘whoot’ and clear vocals throughout mixed with a location that must have been somewhat close to the stacks. Perhaps not technically the best of the EU tour this source is nonetheless a pleasure to enjoy. Great performance, as usual, and a crisp Cardioid recording make this absolutely a must-listen. Great stuff.

Notes: Currently, as I write this, it is the year 2024. This source appears to be sourced from a cassette or something. The speed is off, there is no real definition of sound and overall this unknown recording sounds a bit like the 2001 Dublin @ SFX unknown recording I purchased back in 2001 while on a study abroad trip. How CU.ORG came across this, an Oasis trader happened to have this as a friend of his somehow had it. It came in one file from wetransfer.com, I downloaded it, listened to it for a couple minutes, realized it was, at best, for collectors only and promptly forgot about it until I found it in my Tool folder on one of the external hard drives. So, it exists, and it’s terrible.

Notes - Taper: Taped from the floor. During first song, people were still searching their place in front of me, some sound variation. Begining of The Pot, everybody standed up. I had to find a new position. Not a great recording but still listenable.

Notes: Honestly this recording is a bit better than the tapers’ description. Not going to win any audio ‘beauty’ contests as it is an internal recording but it is at least somewhat pleasant and balanced. More importantly, it has 7empest, a song, as you probably know, that they do not perform often or enough. That’s about it.

Notes: Real nice DPA 4060 recording. A little light on the bass for my tastes but this is an accurate capture of the performance. MJK’s vocals seem to be somewhat buried in the mix if one were to be critical. Of special interest is that the taper must have used a battery box from DPA like MMA6000 or MPS6030 in order to power the microphones prior to putting the cable into the input of the iPhone. It is surprising that the iPhone 8 kept it’s battery charged for more than two hours! Apple burn… All in all, this may be the best sounding source of Tools’ EU tour in 2022.

Notes by Uploader: Last show of the 2022 Eu Tour. Almost sold out. I think this show sounded exceptionally good! The visuals were great too. Tool played a lot of new songs (almost the whole Fear Inoculum). Its interesting that they chose more new songs at the end of the tour than in 2019. But it was all good. I'm glad we got Sober! Fun to see no phones during the show (except the last song).

Notes: How are the vocals captured so clearly as they seem to rise above the rest of the sound blasting from the PA’s? Impressed. This source has a very strange sound to it as it is exceptionally clean; generally, this is not common. For vocal clarity, this source may take the metaphorical cake from this tour leg. Kind of makes me want to investigate some Church Audio microphones. Very low crowd noise throughout. Excellent.

Notes: Whew. The source of this is not bad. It’s not. A significant amount of movement is pervasive and somewhat distracting; you can hear the swish of movement and what is that on FI? Some unique repeat of vocals or an echo - I honestly do not know. I cannot for the life of me ever think taping some massive festival would yield positive results and, really, this source is testament to that. Grateful Dead fans take note, Jack Straw was the taper of this source. If you do not know the reference there is always time to brush up on the works of Robert Hunter. A true American legend.
