2002.11.21 - San Diego, CA, USA @ Cox Arena

Source A: DAT --- Core Sound Cardioids > Sony PCM-M1

Notes:
One of the crispest sounding recordings from this particular leg of the tour. Before the taper adjusts the levels, the bass crunches slightly during C&U but other than that slight mishap, this is a very nice audience recording. The vocals, guitar, drums & bass are compliments of each other. Unlike other cardioids recordings where there seems to next to no bass, this has a nice layer of bass that is nicely balances to the other instruments. There are a couple of rather minute flaws which were not the fault of the taper such as (to me) an excess of crowd noise, especially during the beginning of the show. All in all, this is definitely worth a collector/fan's time to find and examine. Tool also seemed to be in a good mood, err, enjoyable mood. This was not just another gig, it was one of the last shows of 2002.

: "Good evening. San Diego? You don't sound so sure. I assume, you are here to have fun. Allow us to clarify what kind of fun we mean. We don't mean the WWF, MTV, dry-hump, dumb shits gone, wild beach party kind of fun. We don't mean the Limp Dipshit Kid Rock kind of fun either. Because we are not going to underestimate your intelligence. The fun tonight will be intelligent fun, compassionate fun, creative fin, the kind of fun that is think for yourself question authority kind of fun. The kind of fun that drives republicans nuts."

Notes:
Filmed from the left side of the stage - literally. Basically, when the taper looked forward, he saw the side of the stage full-on. Interesting, most recordings do not have this sort of angle. Nice change. One of my personal favorites, my favorite recoridng by this taper. There are some interesting screen shots as well but, I am certain, those are edited in from another show(s) as the angle where the taper was, there is no way he could see the screen. The audio quality on this particular show is, by far, the best of Randy's products. Fact is, IMO, this particular show is his best work. There are some amazing shots. Tell you, this guy has some balls when it comes to taping. All in all, pretty damn nice.
