1st from Master

Notes:
Good recording....but, there is a bit more crowd noise than on the taper's other recordings. Just seems a bit...louder. I think this was recorded farther back in the venue. Still, the overall sound is crisp, clear & very nice; well above average. Tool just seems a little bored though. Maynard's voice is still in a bit of a stump but the band is quite tight, like usual. Standard Summer 02 setlist which is very much like the rest of them. Although, the crowd did get two more songs than the last third of the tour: EBA & Patient. Which is cool...Maynard's voice does hold up very nicely on that tune though - sort of fades out/in & slightly off key. Apparently, he was still trying to get better after being so sick. Maybe he shouldn't have had that "red snapper tuna" after the show in July - some fish will only leave you with a rash and/or a sore throat? STD? Nah... ? There is already a quality transfer on CD available, I shall not clone > CD another.

Notes:
The source info, the story. The master reportedly sold his MD's to Omar for whatever fee. It is debatable if the taper simply copied MD's onto other MD's, copied CD or WAV to MD's or really sent his masters. Only one person really knows & he reports that he sent his masters. I do not know why anyone would get rid of their master recordings. But that is me. As such, there are at least 2 different rips of this show with different track times floating around.
Notes: VGood sounding recording. Although, IMO, Tool wasn't all that spectacular this night (in contrast with other performances), they do put on a good show even when they really aren't trying. So, that is sort of a compliment and sort of a criticism - you decide for yourself what it should be. Recording is clean, crisp but slightly distant. Not sure where the taper was at this show but the crowd is relatively low. Which is always nice. If you listen to MJK's voice, at certain points, you can hear something that is slightly lacking...the deepness, the richness? It is still there but not as present as the rest of the tour. Especially in the fall. The rest of the band is, of course, dead-on. All in all, nice.

Source C: DAT --- Sound Pro Slimline Cardioids > Sony PCM-M1 (Oade Mod)

Notes:
Nice recording with a few inconsistent track transitions but is nonetheless a fine capture of Tool. There is, however, a fair amount of crowd noise that features some loud fans yelling during odd times. Not a big deal but worth mentioning. The taper was not close to the speakers, to my ears it sounds as though the taper was up in the stands a good distance away. In that respect it is good that Cardioids were used as the sound is rather crisp & pretty sharp but there seems to lack a little bit of resonance or depth. Maybe some collectors will agree with me, maybe some will not. All in all, this is a recording worth attaining if you want to listen to a straight up decent recording. The CSC>M1 recording seems to be a little bit better,
