1995.03.04 - Los Angeles, CA, USA @ Grand Olympic Center

Notes:
The second show of 1995. Recording is very clear, crisp & dynamic in sound. I've read that others give this show a B+ or A- for sound quality. I don't know about that as it's hard to really decipher letter grades as they are supremely subjective...but then again, so is this. The performance is quite interesting as well...seriously, imagine this set list these days. Or even back in 1995. The songs are evolving, a little rough but yet that seems to make them that much more intriguing. The performance is quite light-hearted and a fair amount of crowd interaction/involvement on the part of MJK & Paul. The taper sounds to be, at least to my ears, front of board or maybe up on mezzanine seating somewhere. Although not distant, the sound has a very live feel to it more so than other recordings from this particular era. Personally, I prefer recordings which are a little more close, concise & have less crowd noise but this is one of the better captures from 1995.

Upper-Right Angle

Notes: Sound is good for a video source but you can detect a faint line of tape hiss. The taper was on the upper-left side of stage, about 10 rows back. The camera shakes, moves & is in focus only a fair amount of time. Lots of movement & the crows noise can be slightly overwhelming but it is still better than some filming-products out there. The lights from the stage continue to shine into the camera, blinding the watcher at some times. All in all, a good enough capture of the performance and, over 9 years later, is a testimonial to this early stage of the AEnima era. It is fair to say that this would most likely be best for collector's as I cannot really see many other people really, really get into this recording.
Notes: The most common version on DVD is from a low gen VHS>DVD. Sometime in 2004, a reported Master>DVD transfer hit the trade-pool. This two disc version does have a line at the bottom that is very common with transfers but is an upgrade from the unknown transfer. Recommended.

Dead Center-Angle

Notes: Up until the end of summer-2005, I did not know that another video of this superb performance existed. Fortunately, there is a center-angle which is, in my opinion, much better than the common right-shot version. This is one of the clearest, entertaining & overall enjoyable videos from this era that is around. Take a look at the images from the video (above) and compare them with not just the other video of this performance but also other videos from this era. Quality - that is this video in one word. Although the camera is shaky at times, the pay-off is the other 99% of the show that has superb captures of the band & some classic screen-shots. This is a wonderful recording that is aching to be in your collection. Now you may ask why did this video take forever to come to light & why is there little source information? The following are quotes from the filmer, without any modification on my part:

The La 3/4/92 is vhc master> panasonic dvd-r If I remember I used a jvc cam at the time??? either that or sony? But its vhc so it had to be my old jvc.... LA 3/4/95 master( center shot) I don't even really remember shooting this show? Back in 2003 I had it transfered over to dvd and just kinda forgot it..I dont recall what I shot it with?, It might have been my old sony?, but that was so long ago?? I remember I got Candlebox around the same time. Anyway, this one is very rare? I think I might have traded it to a few people but I haven't seen it pop up often. Just the common right side shot is around...I might do so more research on this before I put it out. Like i said it was 10 years ago when I shot this but just for your info list I do have it..

See, some people say San Bernardino doesn't have thumbs but I just wanted to check that you all do. Strange place.
