2002.09.07 - Moline, IL, USA @ Mark of the Quad Cities
Source A: Mini Disc --- Core Sound Binaurals (clones) > Sharp MT-770
Notes: Interesting show. Instead of starting off with Sober, they do Commando first, talk about throwing people for a loop. The recording is very clear, crisp & there are absolutely no complaints with the quality. Most of the copies of this source in circulation are sourced from SHN. Regardless of how you feel about SHN, I am not a huge fan but apparently there is no difference -- still, I would rather have a SHN free recording, you should know that this was first put onto the Tool Hub for download. Thankfully, the copy I have is not sourced from SHN & is a 2nd gen from the taper. As such, perhaps an indication of how to tell the difference between SHN versus non-SHN, the tracks are not split up. On the other hand, recently, I received the exact same recording <time + everything_> the same but with distinct track marks. So, your guess is as good as mine. The performance is very polished & it is interesting that they did not play Disposition & Reflection this night This is the last show of the summer 2002 tour. This recording was reportedly taped from the lower bowl, second section on left.

Notes: Ah, the last performance of the this portion of the 2002 Tour. Capped with the subtraction of disposition/reflection but 'made up for(?)' with 'Commando' cover by The Ramones, the performance is one thing that more than a few people would argue about. Some would say that Tool just needed a break at this point others may say 'hey listen to this performance, it's great'. It's hard when both opinions ring true. As for this amazing recording, it is without a doubt the piece de la resistance as it sort of is like a cherry on the top of a tour leg of just a ton of really great, high quality recordings. Good job to all involved. Particularly with this source, as it is so clear, you can really hear the rawness of MJK's voice at this point; particularly on songs like Sober where you can almost hear the gravel from the road from the relentless touring schedule the band engaged upon...

Notes: Wonderful taping job by an actual, shall we say, professional filmer. As such, he wishes to not be known nor for this recording to go any farther than myself. The recording itself is by far the clearest, sharpest & most vivid (picture-wise) I've yet had the pleasure to witness. There are some superb close-ups of each member of the band as well as some very good screen shots. Filmed from center mezzanine, the stage itself is shot quite a few times to give the scope of what Tool is doing. The only issue, per se, is that the microphones tend to brickwall a little bit, slightly, when an extreme high or low passes through them. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this recording is not just that this is very good, overall, nor due to the fact that this is the last show of the summer leg-of-the-tour but due to the rather odd love-song sung by Mike Patton of Tomahawk during the intermission. Glad the taper continued to tape during that part. All in all, quite rare & quite good.
Maynardism:
"We would like to thank Tomahawk for doing this tour with us. Thank you guys, Kevin, Mike John & Dorian from Tomahawk. This is the last show of this leg. Ready to go home & masturbate to Cinemax for about three weeks. I'm not going to even think once about your needs are for three weeks. I'm going to eat food & shit for three weeks. I'm going to lay back & have some fun for three weeks. Thank you very much for sharing this precious moment with us. Always a pleasure, never a chore. Make sure to tip your waitress on the way out. And remember, always know it's never...never, use a condom on the first date. Yes. See you on the other side."
