Notes - Items with this notation are from the personal collection of Tool Memorabilia and are not property of CU.ORG: There is a story that is not mine to tell about these unique DAT tapes as these were procured by the legendary collector known as Tool Memorabilia from his vast entanglements within the Tool community. The DAT tapes were transferred by Galen in 2012 and given back to the owner. If these exist, more than these DAT tapes exist in the wild… That said, I’m not implying one can procure what Tool Memorabilia has been able to do over a long collecting career but if you never try, you will never know. Happy hunting.
Notes 2024:
The Westwood One recording gained a significant amount of traction in the music industry akin to the band moving from send to first stage at Lollapalooza in 1993. There was a plan to release Undertow/Sober/Opiate/Flood as a promo vinyl, however, plans apparently were scrapped for that due to the actual cost of the physical weight of the vinyl in regards to being shipped to Best Buys (yes, this was supposed to be a thing). This is why there was a Best Buys freebie giveaway on CD in lieu of the vinyl option. And there you go… Would have been cool to see any promo ideas of the vinyl but, sadly, if they existed, the sands of time have washed them away. Almost left out an interesting tidbit, the date of the DAT for this unreleased promo was from 1995… As I am sure you, astute reader, see that the DAT is labeled in 1995 as that is when this piece would have been released had it gone into production. As it is, this is a cross-referenced entry as this exact same entry is in the 1995 section. As a note, Tool has never released any live recordings on vinyl (other than two off of Opiate circa 1992), as of 2024. I think that is sort of wild.
