Notes 2024:
First of all, years ago, I had put together, in my opinion, a rather cohesive and accurate review of this fantastic recording which has, in the past, been confused as a SBD recording. It is not, but that is a massive compliment to the taper. Unfortunately, my initial notes from 1998 are gone as are my updated review from 2007 when I ascertained a 1G of this recording. I have the recording but, still, I do not know what I wrote word for word, although, I will say that this is a recording that is beyond it’s ‘date of manufacture’ if you will. This seasoned Tool taper, still active-ish in the year of our Lord 2024, pulled off a simply fantastic recording which set the standard for CSB microphones obscenely high as omni mics like CSB are best front of stack just like DPA 4061 are. As it is, this recording is nothing short of awesome. This taper is a total stud who nailed it with or without knowing at the time. Let’s take a quick look at the recorder (picture upper right). Ever taped with one of these are actually held one in your hands? No? I have not, either. This was sort of like a bridge between the technology of Analog-Cassette > DAT > Mini Disc. Essentially, this was like a cassette tape but smaller, not a DAT but had some compression like Mini Disc. As it is, Wim nailed this recording and this is widely considered one of if not the best recording from this tour leg let alone from 1997 - a close first (or second?) is the Philadelphia, PA 11-23-1996 CSB recording. And for either recording to be compared to either is a compliment. This is not recommended for anyone’s collection, this is mandatory.
