2002.05.25 - Castle Donington, England @ Donnington Race Course (Ozzfest)

Source A: Mini Disc --- Sony ECM-717 > Sharp MT (unknown model #)

Notes: Very clear recording, especially for a Mini Disc recording. This recording is a capture of an outdoor gig & there are a few 'flaps' of wind-noise but other than that the taper did a great job. Would have been nicer if Sony ECM mics were not used but they actually do a good job recreating the sound of this performance. Hard to really complain. Nothing really exceptional other than this is Tool playing an Ozzfest gig. I have  listened to this recording quite a bit as its definitely a good one. There is a slight skip during AEnima but this is common in all copies. Performance is very good & seems to be rather rocking....I like the set list quite a bit as well. Fantastic rendition of Ticks & Leeches that is one for the record books. Well, maybe not, but this is a fine capture. This is the only known complete recording of this performance.

Source B: Mini Disc --- Panasonic microphone (model # unknown) > Sony MZ-R90

Notes: Very, very nice & crystal clear taping job especially for a Mini Disc recording. Depending on who you talk to, the sound would be considered to be excellent. There are some wind flaps, crowd talking & the like but the overall audio presentation is noteworthy. There may be a few copies which have static on the first 3 minutes of Schism. I used to have a copy with the static but now have a fixed copy. Apparently the first transfer from the taper had that static on there. Watch out. If you have a copy with static, you should not trade it out as 'fixed' copies are now in circulation. Unfortunately, this is an incomplete recording. The first 3 songs are missing. I think the taper simply got to the show a bit later, after they started the set, you can hear the taper mess with the mics & whatnot. Perhaps the taper was recording another band, not sure. Or, he didn't press record... who knows. Anyway, well worth checking out.
