2001.09.14 - Columbus, OH, USA @ Schottenstein Center
Source A: DAT --- Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L> PA-6LC3/65 > Sony TCD-D100
Taper: Vikas
Gen: 1st from Master
Notes: Taped front of board, dead center, this is a good sounding show but the sound is a little distant. It is well balanced & very clean but the crowd can over-power the sound, quite a few times, actually. The performance itself is quite top-notch & has the same -odd- feel as the 09.13.01 show the night before. It seems, although it could be me, that Tool has other things on their mind other than this particular moment. On the other hand, perhaps Tool was entirely focused on the moment & that, in turn, gives the songs new interpretations for the particular situation in which the United States has become. There is one thing for certain, Maynard & most likely the other members of Tool were not very supportive of the masses of fans yelling support for the United States. The vibe of this performance, like the performances right after 09/11, was very appropriate for a Tool show. Just my opinion of course.

DVD Gen: ? from Master
Notes: Filmed from the upper-left balcony, this is the first video to surface after the events of 9/11. Not even that, but a matrix. Interesting. Now, to me, these shows seem to have a whole different level of energy to them. Maybe it is simply in my mind, maybe not. However, the performance / energy / visuals & overall excellence of this video make it a recommended addition to anyone's collection. Very steady picture, sound is good as well. Camera is focused & has some very nice close-ups & of all the band members & of Osseus just 'hanging around'. If you can find this recording, I suggest you pick it up. Not much more to say, really. I don't think I could do this filmer justice. If anything, he/she gets a huge credit for being able to record the whole show or any of it during this odd time. Security was quite tight. A word or two of caution re: this source "there are a few different DVD transfers from unspecified origins". There are also various & sundry VCD (remember that lame fad?) rips around as well.
Maynardism:
"Huh...so, it's been quite the, it's been quite the week. Seems like we're faced with some choices. They are old choices but they are being presented again...over & over again. The choices of course are clear, do we choose fear? Or do we choose love & compassion? We choose compassion & love"
CROWD: "USA USA USA USA USA USA"
MJK: "Hang on, here's a cool thing you might want to think about Mr. USA chanter...we just got our asses kicked, you might want to hold the applause for just a minute until we figure out just what we did wrong. This song is about communication & only then will there be world peace. Communicating with each other"
